Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of OIF and OEF veterans and their families, is hiring.

IAVA was founded in 2004 by current Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff and his fellow Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. After returning home from their tours, these veterans came together after quickly becoming concerned with the way the war in Iraq was being portrayed in the media and the overall plight of newly returned veterans. There were many policy experts and talking heads on TV, but very few people who had actually served on the ground in Iraq or Afghanistan. There was no one talking about what our wounded friends needed and the issues they faced. The creation of IAVA allowed thousands of veterans to join the national dialogue, and to explain what was really happening on the ground overseas and back home in the US.

There are looking for smart, talented candidates to fill the following positions:

Online Strategy Associate: Help our innovative, effective, and growing Online department create and implement web-based campaigns to support all of IAVA’s efforts. Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in New Media and basic experience with HTML and Photoshop.

Deputy Communications Director: This is a job of significant responsibility. The successful candidate will work closely with Communications Director to draft strategic media plans for key organizational campaigns. Applications must show several years of experience in Communications with demonstrated success.

Communications Associate: Play a key role in executing our media and messaging strategy, including writing press releases, pitching media and fielding press requests. Previous experience in communications highly preferred.
For all positions, high-quality writing skills are a must. A college degree is also required.

Read the full job descriptions and follow the instructions for applying, available here: www.iava.org/content/jobs-and-internships OR view their jobs posted on HireVeterans.com and apply now!

Pinkerton Government Services Partners with HireVeterans.com

by Robbyn Wilson

Since 9/11, security is one of the America’s fastest growing and most vital industries in the country. Seven years after the terrorist attacks, the homeland security business is booming and has become a multi-billion dollar business and now eclipses mature enterprises like movie-making and the music industry in annual revenue.

With over 25 offices in the U.S. and nearly 4,500 employees, Pinkerton Government Services (PGS) is one of America’s most dedicated and innovative security, fire and emergency services in the out-sourced defense industry available today. PGS stands behind America’s war veterans with 65% of their employees being current and/or prior military service men and women. PGS is rising to meet the challenge of guarding our homeland and also supporting our war veterans who have done the same.

In a logical marriage, Pinkerton and Hire Veterans.com will be collaborating in a win-win venture keeping America safe and our war veterans employed in service to our country…

In fact, PGS has a long-standing tradition of service to the US we can all be proud of. In their earliest years, Pinkerton foiled an assassination attempt against President Lincoln and the U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation can trace their history back to the name Pinkerton.

Now, PGS is the only company solely dedicated to providing security services in compliance with U.S. government security policies and regulations, with emphasis on those requiring agency level security clearances (DOD, DOE, DOI, etc.) and eight of the Top Ten DOD civilian contractors are clients. Pinkerton’s experience and reputation as a provider of consistent, high quality security services have resulted in PGS being the preferred provider of cleared security services across the country.

Pinkerton is offering open positions to Military veterans who would like to work in safety and security of the assets of the U.S. Government and government contractor organizations worldwide. PGS was created to provide specialized security and fire services to meet federal government requirements.

Major Texas Employer Searching for Qualified Military Veterans to Help Run world class Refinery

by Gordon G. Gates

BP Texas City is the world’s most complex refinery. As BP’s largest refinery in the world and the third-largest refinery in the US, BP Texas City is capable of processing approximately 460,000 barrels of crude oil each day. This oil is refined into about 11 million gallons of gasoline. Located just south of Houston, the plant includes 29 oil-refining units and four chemical units on a 1,200-acre site. BP Texas City has the capacity to satisfy 3% of the gasoline demand in the U.S.— enough to fully fuel seven cars every second.

With their FOCUS ON THE FUTURE program, BP Texas City is investing in a bright future. They have put more than $1 billion in the Texas City refinery and seek to hire high quality military veterans to manage, operate, and work their world class facility by working with HireVeterans.com to reach out to hire U.S. Veterans.

Their Focus on the Future program represents more than 28 major initiatives over the next five to seven years and includes the areas of leadership and technical training, information technology, refining, HSSE technology and safety upgrades.

They employ more than 1,900 full and part-time workers and more than 2,000 contractors in a variety of disciplines, including engineering, human resources and development, finance and economics, and procurement and supply chain management. New employees can look forward to a smooth transition into the culture at BP Texas City, with a networking support program that connects new hires with key employees and resources.

The refinery has an outstanding internal communications system. They have created an internal TV network and an active intranet site that promote open access to information. BP Texas City supports a positive, integrated culture that finds strength in its diversity.

Teamwork and community are very important at BP Texas City. When Hurricane Katrina displaced thousands of Louisiana residents in 2005, employees joined together to welcome evacuees by giving financial contributions, opening their homes to families and donating food, clothing and other essential items.

Go enjoy southeast Texas. With Houston nearby, Texas City is close to one of the largest cities in the US. An international center for the energy and aeronautics industries, Houston is also known for its active visual and performing arts scene, diverse neighborhoods and professional sports teams.

Texas City is just minutes from the Clear Lake and Galveston Island recreation areas, which are popular spots for boating and other water sports. With a 61-degree average temperature in the coldest month of the year, residents appreciate the warm weather and year-round accessibility to outdoor activities.

BP Texas City is reaching out and looking for great people so take a look now at their job offerings and apply now

Eagan, McAllister Associates to Hire U.S. Veterans

by Robbyn Wilson

Founded in 1984 by Rex Eagan and John McAllister, the current CEO, Eagan, McAllister Associates (EMA) has more than 1,500 employees delivering services under 100+ contract vehicles with over $165 million in annual revenue. Acquired in July 2007 by Science Applications International Company (SAIC) and headquartered in Lexington Park Maryland with 13 additional locations in five states.

Eagan, McAllister Associates (EMA) is now a recognized leader in technology, engineering, management, and logistics support for government and industry clients worldwide actively supporting the Aviation and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) communities.

EMA has specialized capabilities include information assurance, technology-based systems, information technology solutions, systems engineering, program management, and geographic information systems (GIS). EMA has a 22-year history of supporting U.S. Navy projects and programs and is ranked 39th in the Department of Defense’s annual list of top Navy contractors based on FY05 procurement data (January 2006). EMA is a two-time recipient of the James S. Cogswell Award for Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement (2001 and 1994) and is built on a commitment to long-term careers over short-term, contract-by-contract relationships.

Currently, EMA is reaching out to employ our U.S. Military Veterans for several locations to fill a variety of specialized jobs. To accomplish this task, EMA has partnered with HireVeterans.com, a market leading job board for U.S. Veterans where U.S. Veterans find their jobs from employers who seek to hire Americas best.

EMA: A Humble Beginning
Eagan, McAllister Associates, Inc. (EMA) began its operations in 1984 with one contract; two employees, co-founders Rex Eagan and John McAllister; and one small office near NAS Patuxent River in Lexington Park, Maryland. Through the mid 1980s, EMA provided engineering, management, and logistics support for Defense programs including carrier air traffic control and landing systems (ATC&LS), tactical aircrew combat training systems (TACTS), shipboard datalinks, computer security, and command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I). Through its work associated with these and other Navy programs, EMA quickly earned a distinctive reputation for its top-quality solutions and exceptional customer support. Over time, as information technology (IT) and associated engineering issues and concerns began moving to the forefront in both government and commercial arenas, satisfied clients naturally looked to EMA for creative, high-tech solutions to their evolving IT challenges.

Twenty years later…
EMA immediately answered its customers’ demand for expanded high-tech support by focusing its efforts on the growth and development of its IT and engineering-related capabilities and service offerings. Through these efforts, EMA has emerged as a world-class IT leader, widely recognized for its innovative, customer-specific solutions and support. By the numbers, EMA’s success translates into over 1,541 talented employees at sites nationwide, annual revenues of $167 million, and a continued average annual growth rate of over 28%. EMA’s success is also validated by its frequent ranking among top contractors by both government and industry publications. In January 2006, EMA was ranked at number 39 in the Department of Defense’s annual list of top Navy contractors.
Aegis and HireVeterans.com Have Partnered to Employ War Veterans

By K. Morgan Barker

Aegis announces that they have joined forces with HireVeterans.com to employ America’s war veterans. War veterans have a history of being on the cutting-edge of military technology and security. Veterans are leaders in their own right, yet they exemplify teamwork and are professionals under pressure. Aegis recognizes that America’s veterans have the skills and discipline they value to propel their company even further as a top international player in the security and risk management business sector.

Military veterans fit hand-in-glove with Aegis due to their extensive training and expertise in the armed forces. Aegis recognizes few employees will ever bring the skills, integrity, discipline and commitment that war veterans inherently offer.

They have substantial experience and a world-wide client-base, including governments, international agencies and the multinational corporate sector.
Case Studies

Aegis in Iraq – Enabling Reconstruction

Since June 2004, Aegis has been under contract to the US Department of Defense to provide security support services to the Project and Contracting Office (PCO), responsible for managing the reconstruction program in Iraq. Known as Project Matrix, it is a reconstruction–enabling operation that sits at the core of the Coalition’s Nation–building endeavors. It harnesses the support of Coalition Forces to the reconstruction effort, thus reducing to a minimum friction between the civilian and military operations, and provides those engaged in reconstruction with a situational awareness they would not otherwise have had.

To achieve this, Aegis has established a Security Framework of Reconstruction Operations Centres (ROCs) throughout Iraq. There are six sited alongside regional Coalition Military headquarters and a National Reconstruction Operations Centre in Baghdad. Through these, Aegis maintains a situational awareness of logistical movement and reconstruction security operations allows sharing of intelligence among security forces and reconstruction contractors, effects co–ordination and liaison between reconstruction and military activity and provides threat assessments and intelligence to contractors. The ROCs also provide continuous information on the viability of road movement throughout Iraq, which is tracked by a system of transponders, complementary to the US Military’s ‘Blue Force Tracker.’ In the event of an emergency, whether caused by Insurgent attack or vehicle breakdown, Quick Reaction Forces are dispatched by helicopter or road.

As well as security advice, coordination and emergency backup to Prime Contactors, Aegis supplies a static guardforce to protect the headquarters of the PCO and US Corps of Engineers and a small close protection and vehicle escort capability to provide mobile security for journeys throughout Iraq to visit reconstruction projects.

In addition to its primary tasks, Aegis also conducts a self–funded civil affairs program. Its aim is to facilitate reconstruction in areas where the local people are hostile and to fill unforeseen gaps in PCO–funded projects. Activities such as inoculation programs in Nasiriyah and donations of school books throughout the country, build substantial returns of goodwill. Much of this work is funded through the Aegis Foundation.

Aegis also provides a number of expatriate–led and Iraqi–manned Reconstruction Liaison Teams that routinely travel the length and breadth of the country to monitor the progress of reconstruction work subcontracted to Iraqi building companies. Typically, this involves week–long expeditions to remote areas including along the Syrian and Iranian borders.

Supporting the Elections

In October 2005, Aegis was contracted by the UN Office for Project Support in support of the UN Electoral Assistance division (UNEAD) and the Independent Electoral Commission Iraq (IECI) to support the successful constitutional referendum in October and the General Election in December 2005. The requirement was to provide a mixed expatriate and Iraqi mobile security component to support electoral infrastructure inspection and liaison with the Governorate Electoral Officers and to provide static site security teams to electoral logistic sites in all 18 Governorate capitals throughout Iraq.

Commercial Contracts

In separate contracts, Aegis also provides security to a number of significant Blue Chip companies operating in Iraq.
