Poet, Writer, and Columnist Gary Corseri Joins Veterans News Now Writing Team

The Veterans Today Network welcomes syndicated writer and global poet Gary Steven Corseri

Gary Corseri grew up in Brooklyn and Queens in New York City. His roots are Sicilian-Catholic and Ukrainian-Jewish. He was raised in a secular home.

His family moved to Miami Beach when Gary was 16. He started at the University of Florida at 17. He lived in Atlanta, Boston, Gainesville, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. along with Sydney, Australia and Japan; Tokyo and Sapporo. He has traveled in 33 countries and 40 US states.

Gary started writing when he was an 8 year old lad.

He performed his work at the Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, and at scores of universities, coffee houses and pubs/taverns/bars around the world.

His dramas have been performed at universities and public schools in the US; a movie version of the libretto he wrote for the opera “Reverend Everyman” was broadcast over PBS-Atlanta.

He has written numerous articles both fiction and non-fiction; from dramas to poetry with such work appearing at Veterans News Now, My Catbird Seat, The New York Times, Village Voice, Redbook Magazine, Palestine Chronicles, Georgia Review, City Lights Review, OpEdNews.comCounterpunch.org, The Japan Times, Outlook India, and hundreds of periodicals and websites around the world.

Gary holds a B.A. cum laude (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Florida. He attended Harvard on a scholarship and received a M.A.T. degree. He attended Florida State University on a fellowship where he holds a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing.

Later Gary taught in US public schools and prisons. He has been a professor in US and at Japanese universities. A freelance editor for decades, his work has been anthologized in “A Directory of Poets and Writers,” “Redbook’s Famous Fiction,” and in the “Manifestations” literary anthology of which he also edited.

Gary has also published two novels: “A Fine Excess: An Australian Odyssey” and, “Holy Grail, Holy Grail: Quest East, Quest West.” His first collection of poems, “Random Descent,” was published by Anhinga Press.
